Enable or disable the touchpad of an Aspire One

How can I enable or disable the touchpad on my Aspire One?

If you need to enable or disable the touchpad, press simultaneously the function (Fn) key and the F7 key. A message will appear on the screen to indicate whether the touchpad is enabled or disabled. In case the touchpad does not work despite enabling it, uninstall the touchpad driver via Device Manager and restart the computer to let Windows reinstall the device. This article describes how to do this.

NOTE

On some models the key combination may be different. Please check your User manual on how to perform this on your specific model.

SOLUTION

Reinstalling the touchpad driver:

  1. Click Start, then right-click My Computer (or Computer) and click Manage.
  2. In the Computer Management window, on the left, click Device Manager.
  3. Click the + sign in front of Mouse and other pointing devices.
  4. Right-click the device listed below Mouse and other pointing devices and select Uninstall.
  5. Click OK to confirm removal of the device.
  6. Restart the system. Windows will detect and automatically install the touchpad driver.
